U-Pick Blueberry Farms Near Sacramento, CA
Sure, you can avoid the hassle and just simply buy a carton of blueberries at the grocery store. But it’s not nearly as joyful as filling your own bucket with freshly-picked blueberries, straight from the bush. There’s something about being outside and enjoying that sunshine, breathing in that fresh air, and basking in the rewarding satisfaction of picking your own berries. In a fast-paced world we live in, we could all use a little more of this kind of joy and therapy!
I recently went berry-picking with my sister and nephew, and it was such a sweet time! This is a great activity whether you want to go solo, with a partner, or if you decide to make it a group activity. What was also neat was meeting the family that ran the farm. You see the people behind all the hard work, and that gives you a new appreciation for the local farmers in the area. Not only that, but I promise you, freshly picked blueberries taste better than any store-bought ones you’ve had! The flavor and sweetness is unmatched!
I put together a short list of local U-pick blueberry farms. But if you happen to know of any more to include, please comment below or on Instagram!
BEFORE YOU GO:
I cannot stress this enough.. if you plan to go berry picking, GO EARLY. It gets hot in the field very quickly, so an early start will make it a much more enjoyable experience for everyone. When I visited Loca Blueberry Farm on a hot weekend, I noticed that by the time I arrived at 9:00 AM, most people already had their buckets full. I would suggest arriving as early as you can to beat the heat.
That being said, bring water – even if you do not plan to have a long visit! You don’t even realize how thirsty you get in the fields, so water (and perhaps a snack) is absolutely necessary. As someone who typically forgets to drink water, I was so thankful I remembered to grab mine with me!
If it’s a sunny day, sun glasses and/or a hat are great to bring along too. If you burn easily, some nontoxic sunscreen could be a good idea too!
